Interior Artist (Pencils and Inks)
Job Description
Seeking Interior Artist — Political Thriller / Sci-Fi Graphic Novel
I'm looking for an interior artist (pencils and inks) for a 200–250 page graphic novel called The Teleportation Agency.
The book is a political thriller and murder mystery set in near-future Washington, DC, where commercial teleportation has existed for about three years. A Senator is murdered beside an illegal teleportation device in his home, and a government attorney is pulled into an FBI task force to investigate the killing while simultaneously drafting emergency safety regulations for the federal agency that oversees the technology. It's grounded, character-driven, and dialogue-heavy — think Sheriff of Babylon meets Fringe, with the institutional authenticity of The Wire.
I'm a regulatory attorney for the U.S. government, and the story draws directly from my professional experience with federal agencies, rulemaking, and administrative law. This is also designed as a teaching tool — a companion guide for law school administrative law courses is being developed alongside the graphic novel.
David Mack is doing the cover art.
The project has a complete 100+ page story bible with detailed scene descriptions, character profiles with physical descriptions, color palette direction, and panel layout notes. The artist will have substantial material to work from immediately.
What I'm looking for:
- Strong character acting and body language (this book lives and dies on how people look when they talk)
- Ability to draw realistic, distinct characters across a large cast (15+ named characters)
- Comfort with institutional settings: government offices, meeting rooms, press conferences, crime scenes, a morgue, DC architecture
- Grounded realism, not stylized or cartoony
- Reliability and communication over a long-term project
Compensation:
- $80/page for pencils and inks
- Artists who also color their own work: higher per-page rate to reflect the additional scope
- Starting with 5–8 sample pages to establish the visual identity and build a pitch/Kickstarter package
- Royalty split and co-ownership to be discussed — this is a partnership, not work-for-hire
If this sounds like your kind of project, please share:
- Portfolio link or sample pages (sequential art, not just pin-ups)
- A note about what interests you about the project
- Your general availability and turnaround time
