Your New Role…

This position is responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding DC Comics’ global readership across book channels and retail accounts. As a subject matter expert, this individual will lead sales planning, develop and execute go-to-market strategies, and grow DC’s presence with both existing and emerging retail partners. The position also oversees the leadership and development of the book market team, fosters collaboration across DC Sales & Marketing, and supports WBD and DC’s shared priorities of “one team” and “best-in-class operations.”

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Develop an annual sales playbook for commercial retail book accounts around the world, establishing revenue goals for each and distinguishing consumer offerings across titles and formats for each account’s unique readership base.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders in Marketing, PR, Editorial, Social, CRM, Community, Brand & Creative, and Franchise to create new publishing promotions for priority initiatives and key titles targeting new audiences across all ages, stages, cultures, and interests.
  • Manage communication with DC’s global book distributor, leading sales planning and promotion discussions, overseeing the pre-order solicitation process, and driving account-specific growth strategies designed to attract new readers and reactivate lapsed fans of DC Comics. Negotiate account-exclusive terms of trade as necessary.
  • Attend account meetings, partner meetings, and trade shows to present sales plans and key initiatives.
  • Be a thought-leader on the book market, clearly establishing and overseeing key metrics on industry health and DC’s performance relative to competition. Work with VP, Sales & Marketing to establish sales goals for strategic planning, budgeting, greenlighting, and post-release tracking.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience…

Work Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in publishing sales, marketing, and/or business development required.
  • Knowledge of comics publishing required.
  • Previous P&L management required.
  • Experience in entertainment brand and franchise management strongly preferred.

Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • MBA or MFA is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully (both verbally and in writing) with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, as well as with external stakeholders (such as vendors.) An excellent communicator and collaborator who works well with team members, external partners, and senior management required.
  • Must have the ability to successfully work in team environment and interact with other people required.
  • Must have the ability to organize, work well under time constraints, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and project elements simultaneously.
  • Must have the ability to pay close attention to details and handle confidential material.
  • Strategic thinker and creative problem-solver who is comfortable working effectively with senior level executives required.
  • Self-starter who adapts quickly to change and can work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment required.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
  • Knowledge of publishing/comic book industry strongly preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to travel as needed approximately 15% of the time.
  • Must be able to respond to off-hours business needs.

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $119,000.00 - $221,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
