Japanese Translation and Editing for Manga Development

Job Description

Visitors Media is a Denver-based independent publisher specializing in comics, graphic novels, and board games. Currently, we are in the final stages of launching a series of comic sci-fi graphic novels centered around a cast of characters and their journeys through space.

We will be publishing the books in their original Western format, but we’re also hoping to adapt them to a manga series for international markets.

We are looking for an individual who can act as both translator AND editor to facilitate this process.

In this role, you will be responsible for both the translation from English to Japanese and the adaptation of the script to fit manga conventions for plot, character, dialogue, and cultural relativity. There will be a great deal of creative freedom as you work with the writer to adapt the material, including input on all aspects of story, art style, and selection of artists.

Essential Qualifications:

• Demonstrated competency in English to Japanese translation, both formal and colloquial (the dialogue should be casual and contemporary.)
• Deep love for and extensive knowledge of manga and manga conventions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in editing, writing, or book development.
• Professional experience in the manga publishing world.

Pay and timeline is flexible, and will be coordinated during interview stages.

This position is remote and open internationally.
