Job Description

The Assistant Brand Manager will assist the Licensing Director to manage relationships with licensors and domestic print partners, and ensure Azuki publishes high-quality manga.

This is a part-time contract position, with a potential for promotion to full-time work in the future. Azuki is a fast-moving startup environment, and ideal candidates will be able to operate independently to creatively solve problems. You will work directly under the Licensing Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Submit requests for approval of translated manga, marketing assets, and more to licensors
  • Keep track of approval schedules and follow up on delayed requests to ensure they get done
  • Put together presentations for new projects to present to licensors
  • Proactively identify potential roadblocks to hitting release date targets, and work with licensors, partners, and Azuki staff to find solutions to them

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Familiarity with digital publishing/media applications, including Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, and/or Clip Studio Paint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • JLPT 1, 2, or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in business Japanese
  • Familiarity with manga licensing contracts and rights management best practices
  • Experience in manga/comics/book production and/or licensing
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the manga industry and community, including sales numbers and cultural trends
  • Avid reader of manga
