Assistant/Associate Production Editor

Job Description
Yen Press’s Managing Editorial department is seeking an Assistant Production Editor or Associate Production Editor to help manage its rapidly growing list of manga, graphic novels, and light novels. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated grammar nerd who has an eagle eye for catching errors and enjoys puzzling over creative problems. They should also be capable of working with minimal oversight and up to the challenge of managing a brisk workload flexibly.

Responsibilities:
- Oversees (from a production editorial standpoint) the production of books from receipt of edited manuscript through bound book
- Liaises with and traffics materials to Editorial, Design, and Production
- Completes electronic manuscript preparation, including style coding in MS Word
- Collates editorial and proofreader marks in Adobe Acrobat
- Hires and reviews the work of freelance copy editors and proofreaders
- Checks that corrections have been made correctly
- Copyedits and proofreads cover and insert materials from original copy through final proof
- Reviews copyedited manuscripts, working in Microsoft Word to reconcile copyediting and editorial markup, and reviews all stages of manuscripts and text proofs
- Assists with reprint corrections
- Assists with ebook quality review
- Manages multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control and tight production schedules
Skills & Requirements
- Applicants applying at the associate level should have 2-3 years of production editorial experience, preferably in trade publishing
- Effective organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
- Proven copyediting and proofreading skills and a familiarity with electronic workflow
- Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
- Strong computer/MS Word skills, proficiency with Track Changes
- Experience with pdf markup a plus
- Knowledge of or interest in manga, graphic novels, and/or light novels a plus
- Be aware that the assistant/associate production editor will sometimes work on Mature titles (rated 18+)
