Assistant Licensing Manager

Job Description
J-Novel Club, a major publisher of Japanese light novels and manga in translation published in digital and physical formats worldwide, is looking for a full-time Assistant Licensing Manager to join its Licensing Department. The Assistant Licensing Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tasks in the department, including helping with publisher communications, offer preparations for new and ongoing series, offer communications, cover and colophon approvals, advertisement approvals, royalty reporting, as well as filing and managing new and ongoing contracts, and keeping existing spreadsheets up to date. The role will assist the Licensing Manager in these tasks as needed. The job involves IPs in light novels, manga, audiobooks, and merchandise. JNC specializes in localization and
publication projects, from the initial launch, chapter-based streaming, and e-book publication. This role will be expected to communicate across departments to meet the needs of the project management, business, third party, and marketing teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting with organization, tracking, database management, and physical contract management for content licenses.
- Assisting with communication between Company and 3rd party content partners, including but not limited to email, phone, and video conferencing, in both English and Japanese as appropriate.
- Assisting with decisions for content offers, negotiation strategy, and introductions to new content partners and overall content strategy.
- Assisting with original source material acquisition, organization, and communication with 3rd party content providers to provide timely and accurate materials.
- Assisting with the distribution of quarterly royalty reports, including both physical and digital sales reports.
- Assisting with in person meetings with content partners
Skills & Requirements
- Experience with licensing IPs.
- Experience with record keeping in online databases.
- Timeliness and ability to meet and track numerous concurrent deadlines.
- Experience in the publishing landscape, especially digital, a plus.
- Functional business level in Japanese a necessity. Candidates must also have advanced to native fluency in English.
- Ability to communicate between departments and across cultural barriers with our publishing partners in Japan, France, and Germany.
- Candidates lacking an above qualification may be considered if they have alternative experience, such as working in general contracting, working in other areas of publishing, or advanced-level Japanese with the ability to learn on the job.
